General Notes:

The Havtore sons belonged to the lieutenant nobility, Norway's old high nobility. The family gradually became so distinguished that the members searched outside the country's borders to find equal spouses. Jon managed Borgesyssel and lived partly at Borregård and partly at Huseby. Jon and his brother Sigurd may not have been adults when his father died in 1319 or 1320. They do not seem to have been born yet in January 1312, when King Håkon gave Borregård to Havtore and. The final division of the inheritance has probably only taken place later. Mr. Jon is mentioned in a document for the first time in 1337 and was already a knight. A few years later he married the Swedish noblewoman Birgitta Knutsdatter. In a document after 1395, it is said that Jon once held an autumn feast, one on Elin. There was no better way than for a man named Helge to add a stab to one of the other guests, and for that he was tied up and put in a darkroom (). It also appears from the same document that Jon had started collecting land in Onsøy. Jon's son Håkon was mentioned as king after Olav Håkonsson's death in 1387. In 1331, probably in the autumn, Magnus Eriksson was declared of age. It was a young man of only fifteen years who took over government power in the two kingdoms of the Union. From now on, Magnus was personally responsible for the board. The term of office of the caretaker government was formally out. An Icelandic analyst tells during the year 1333 that Erling Vidkunsson, Havtoresønnene and Ulv Saxesson had taken over Tunsberghus and refused to hand over the castle to its rightful lord. This was rebellion. Some time later, however, they withdrew and obtained the king's mercy. Only Ulv Saxesson failed to help King Magnus, instead he fled the country. 15.08.1343 Erling Vidkunsson, Sigurd and Jon Havtoresssønner, Ivar Ogmundsson, Håkon Ogmundsson, Ogmund Guttormsson, Ulv Saxesson, Bjarne Erlingsson, Ogmund Finnsson, Gert Smidsson and Eilif Eilifsson, all the secular members of the Riksdag, issued the following letter: A similar prelate statement. In 1343, it was the council that together with King Magnus made Håkon King of Norway. The action of the Riksråd on this occasion was clearly legislative, in the actual sense it can be characterized as a royal election. The distance to the Sverre family's automatic hereditary kingdom was obvious. The events at Varberg also demonstrated that the council had won an independent constitutional position. Three years later, a dispute arose between King Magnus and the sons of Havtore over the latter's right to own Borgesysla. The sons of Havtore had in their time been endowed with
